Orji Uzor Kalu Clarifies Ownership of Washington D.C. Property

Senator Orji Uzor Kalu has issued a press statement to clarify details regarding his ownership of a property in Washington D.C., following a video report by a media personality, Chinedu Alice.
The former Abia State Governor stated that while the report was largely accurate, he needed to correct a specific detail for the public record.
Senator Kalu confirmed that he did indeed own a house in Boston, Massachusetts, which he sold to purchase his current residence in Washington D.C. He noted that the house was the same one former President Olusegun Obasanjo commented on when he was governor in 2003, and was also inspected by U.S. authorities during President George W. Bush’s administration.
I sold my house 2019/2021 facing this street in Matapan, Massachusetts, which was my house. I sold it and bought this place and still had some change,” Senator Kalu stated in a video posted via his verified social media handles.
He emphasized that the property was acquired before he became governor, using the proceeds from the sale of the Boston house, and was properly declared in his asset declaration. He also clarified that the houses are in his name and he has never attempted to conceal his ownership.
The senator’s main point of clarification was the timeline of the purchase. While Chinedu Alice’s report did not specify the exact date, Senator Kalu wanted to make it clear that the Washington D.C. house was purchased in 2003, before he assumed office as governor.
“I just wanted to clear Chinedu, because I saw what he did,” he said. He never asked me questions on when I bought my house, it’s good to keep the records very clear.
He concluded his statement by stating that he wanted the matter to be on public record to prevent future misconceptions.
