Baring any last minute changes, the Colleges of Education in Nigeria will officially begin indefinite strike, from Tuesday 14th June 2022.
It will be recalled that The leadership of Colleges of Education Academic of Staff Union (COEASU), had, in May 2022, given a 21 days ultimatum to the Federal government and demands immediate resolution to some cogent issues affecting the country’s colleges of education, failure of which the union will embark on strike.
Among the burning issues listed by the union are; the COEASU-FG 2010 agreement, the Non-release of pledged N15b revitalization fund, poor funding, and insistence on IPPPIS against UTAS.
Other issues include Dilly-Dallying Posture of Government to Renegotiation of COEASU-FGN 2010 Agreement. While the long anticipated renegotiation of COEASU-FGN 2010 Agreement holds enormous promise for mutual resolution of several challenges bedeviling the COE system, the FG has failed to accord the exercise deserved priority. Ridiculously, the FG has refused to constitute her own renegotiation team after acknowledging receipt of our Union’s team list on her own request for over three months now.
