Gov Uzodimma Approves N70,000 Minimum Wage, Implements Workers Promotions In Imo
Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma, has approved a new minimum wage of ₦70,000 for workers in the state, underscoring his administration’s commitment to improving the welfare of civil servants. The announcement was made on Monday, November 25, 2024, at the Government House in Owerri following a strategic meeting with Organized Labour leaders.
Beyond the wage increase, the governor has also authorized the immediate implementation of financial benefits for recently completed promotions of state workers due for advancement. This decisive move aims to boost morale and enhance productivity within the state’s civil service.
Addressing the development, Governor Uzodimma assured workers of further actions to address their needs. He pledged to review pension allowances after the ongoing audit is concluded and promised to settle all outstanding gratuity payments for workers at both local and state levels, dating back to 2006.
In a show of goodwill, the governor also announced additional measures, including the payment of a 13th-month salary and the distribution of food items to all workers in the state. “This is part of our deliberate efforts to reward hard work, dedication, and service to the state,” the governor emphasized.
The new policies are seen as a direct response to long-standing demands by workers and are expected to provide much-needed relief amid rising costs of living.
The minimum wage increase and promotion implementation will take immediate effect, marking a significant milestone in the administration’s efforts to prioritize the welfare of Imo workers.
